I have been messing around with the theme here again, so if every time you look at the blog it looks different, that is my fault. Thus far I haven’t been able to find just the right look, combined functionality and legibility. The ones that have the appearance that I like the best are the ones that have the smallest and hardest to read fonts. I suppose I could hack in and adjust that but sometimes there is a cascade of changes that must follow.
Anyway, please bear with me and hopefully I will find just what I want soon.

1. Adam and Eve (Genesis 1:26-2:3)
Then God said: “Let us make man in our image, after our likeness. Let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, the birds of the air, and the cattle, and over all the wild animals and all the creatures that crawl on the ground.”
So God blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because on it he rested from all the work he had done in creation.
2. Noah and his family (Genesis 9:8-17) Continue Reading »

I have decided, actually I have wanted to do this for a long time, to take one or more of the online courses at St. Paul Center for Biblical Theology.
The first of these is called “Covenant Love: Introducing the Biblical Worldview” and looks at Scripture from the perspective of “Covenant” which is probably an even better word than “Testament” which we use to denote the old covenant from the new covenant in the Bible as the Old and New Testament.
I will post as I go because it helps me to understand and learn if I articulate and write as a go.
This is the direction of the course;
“Covenant is the answer to the question: What’s the Bible all about? Covenant explains why God does and says the things He says and does in Scripture.
If you understand covenant then everything else falls into place. The details that once seemed so obscure start making sense.” - from the first lesson

Well, what do you think?
If you are a southern Baptist, or non-denominational or some other Christian from the bible belt of the southern U.S. you’re probably going to assume that this is an organization along the same Evangelical or fundamentalist lines as yourself. In fact, if you didn’t look at the name closely you might confuse it with the Christian Bible Society, which does have that Protestant orientation. So if you saw a link to this organization on the web, you might even follow it, with certain expectations. Coming from a certain Evangelical background myself, I know what I would assume.
So what is that assumption all about? Continue Reading »

I know it looks cold but you might be surprised how warm it is here in the north.
Anyway, there are a few housekeeping details and links that have to be added and/or corrected. But it looks like this is the new site for North of the Shire.
Enjoy.

Let us first put something to rest. Tiller’s killer, whatever he was, was not pro-life. By definition he was not pro-life. If he was, he would not have killed Tiller. He may have been anti-abortion, as pro-life people are, but he was not pro-life.
So, the answer to those pro-abortion people who will take the ball and run with this and try to tar the pro-life movement; we are pro-life and Tiller’s killer was not. Period.
Now, I have heard and read a lot of discussion from many angles today, from people who declare Tiller had it coming to those who are so concerned about the backlash that they are suggesting that we as pro-lifers should be in mourning. So let us step back just a moment, catch our breath and think about what a Christian’s response should be to this.
As a backgrounder, let us look at one of the parables of Jesus; Continue Reading »
